With over 40 years of media
experience under his belt, the WISL is pleased to have the talents
of John Powell working for us. He has supported a variety of
WISL programs with his writing, editing and photography skills
since his retirement from Wisconsin Public Radio in 2002. While
at WPR he was the state government and political reporter and
was Professor of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
His media career began in 1960, as announcer and reporter for
WRCO radio in Richland Center, WI while still in high school.
During this time he became, out of necessity, a science reporter
because many public issues involve questions of science.
John’s hobbies include photography, vintage
cars, running and history — he also serves as a docent at the
Frank Lloyd Wright-designed First Unitarian Society Meeting
House in Madison, as well as for other Wright buildings.
